Wrath, or anger, is emotional violence. Brief anger at frustration is normal and not sinful. So is righteous anger at one’s own sins or the sins of others. Excess and lack of control make anger sinful. Jesus said, Mt 5:21 “You have heard that it was said to the men of old, ’You shall not kill; and whoever kills shall be liable to judgment.’ But I say to you that every one who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment.” We conquer wrath by the practice of meekness.
Wrath is one of the seven capital sins. The others are pride, avarice, envy, lust, gluttony, and sloth. All the sins we commit are said to flow from these seven capital sins.
