Journalists write the first draft of history. The vast majority are liberal. Most Americans think separation of church and state is in the Constitution because journalists tell them it is. Most Americans think the Constitution guarantees the right to an abortion, the right to privacy, the right to remain silent.

Most journalists today write about abortion as a normal part of everyday life. They favor abortion, and everyone they know favors abortion. It is not so much that they conspire to keep secret the truth that they privately know. Rather, they themselves have no idea of what an abortion really is. We need Catholic journalists who write about abortion in ways that make clear what it is. We need Catholic journalists who will simply write about the developing child in the womb and show on national television sonograms of the unborn child at various ages.

Most journalists today see the Church as the voice of an obscurantist minority that seeks to impose its medieval agenda on the whole country. Bishop Sheen once said that there are not a hundred people in the United States who hate the Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they falsely believe it to be. We will bring wayward Catholics back to the Church, bring wayward Protestants home to the Church that Christ instituted, bring Jews to the completion of what they have already begun, and bring atheists into the light of God’s presence and power, only if the Catholic Church and its teachings are widely understood.
