Divine Mercy Chaplet

Introduction

The Divine Mercy Chaplet, celebrating Christ’s limitless mercy and love for mankind. is and based on the 1930s-era writings of St. Faustina Kowalska, a Polish nun of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy, canonized on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 30, 2000. This is not a painting of St. Faustina, but an actual photograph.

Jesus said to Saint Faustina : “Souls who spread the honour of My mercy I shield through their entire life and at the hour of death I will not be a Judge for them, but the Merciful Saviour. I promise that the soul who will venerate this image will not perish. I further promise to that soul victory over enemies here on earth especially at the hour of death. I Myself shall defend that soul as my own glory…”

We pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet on the traditional Rosary beads. We begin with an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and the Apostles’ Creed. Then, on the first medallion, large single bead, we pray, “Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood …” Then, on each of the ten decade beads, we pray “For the sake of His sorrowful Passion …” We repeat this five times. At the end we pray, three times, “Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal one, have mercy on us and on the whole world.” Some Catholics, when they pray the Chaplet at three o’clock, the hour of divine mercy, add, “O Blood and Water …”

Glory to God in the highest!
