Second Exodus particularly enjoys the blessings before and after meals because they offer visible Catholic witness to family and guests at home, and to all who sit nearby at restaurants. Many Catholics know the basic prayer before meals: “Bless us, O Lord, and these Thy gifts which we are about to receive from Thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.” However, Second Exodus, recalling the Hebrew table blessings over every dish, prefers the complete prayer.
