Can You Help Evangelize the 500,000 Catholics in Our Nation’s Prisons?
A Catholic Prisoner writes: “A good Catholic book is like a diamond in a place like this!”
A Catholic Prison Chaplain writes: “Our institution is awash in pornography. Most ’religious’ material in here is anti-Catholic in nature.
A Catholic Prisoner writes: “We have a Protestant prison chaplain and do not have access to the Sacraments. The ’Catholic’ shelf in our library is filled with anti-Catholic books.”
The Corporal Works of Mercy entreat every Catholic to CCC 2447 “visit those in prison.”
Our Lord makes it clear that our eternal destiny turns on what we do (or do not do) Mt 25:40 “to one of the least of these my brethren.”
First Century Christian Ministries (FCCM) is a lay apostolate -- founded by Catholic convict-converts in a Bible Belt Alabama State Prison -- dedicated to evangelizing prisoners in cooperation with prison chaplains. Today, FCCM’s newsletter reaches 1,100 subscribers, 75 percent of whom are prisoners, and Catholic materials and devotionals flow from FCCM supporters to 70 prison chaplains across the nation. Other FCCM initiatives include pen-pals for serious Catholic inmates, and a “Bibles for Inmates” program.
Here’s what YOU can do to help:
