Defending the Catholic Faith

God is interesting. During my journey from Judaism to the Catholic Church, a Protestant friend told me, “You know, Mary really had very little to do with Jesus’ public ministry. Read the Gospels and see for yourself. From Cana to Calvary she completely disappears.” At the time I did not know how to answer him, but I did have a cheerful faith that the Catholic Church during its two thousand year history had noticed this, and that it was somehow consistent with God’s providence.

Years later, writing Second Exodus, I remembered that incident and thought about Protestants trying to reach emerging Catholics before they knew enough about their Faith to defend it. So I put in a robust defense of the Faith right near the beginning of the book, pages 11 to 64, so that every reader would be well prepared to defend his faith.

Defending the Catholic faith became one of my passionate interests. Most of my writing on defense of the Catholic faith is in the Second Exodus book.

The defense material on this site is intended to provide useful information, but also to whet your appetite to buy the book. Here is where I help you find the defense of the Faith (apologetics) information on this web site.

Strictly speaking, apologetics and evangelism are different disciplines under the Catholic canopy. My own passion is for apologetics, defense of the Faith. Probably because I have already put a lot of apologetics into Second Exodus, many of the wonderful people who have written to me have asked about evangelization. Each time when someone raised a question of broad interest, I put extra time into the effort and posted the answer here so that everyone could benefit.

In any event, at the street level they are close cousins. When we evangelize a person we often have to defend our faith. Since most visitors to this site will probably need both, I will consider them together here.

Marty’s Magazine & Web Articles

My fifth article for The Catholic Faith magazine, Neutered and Feminized Language, mounted a stirring defense of traditional language. Feminist changes in the English language would make it impossible to think in Catholic terms.

My sixth article, Thanks for the Fleas, defended the Faith by rallying the faithful. It showed how God is using heretical bishops, priests and deacons to strengthen the Church!

My 12th article, Why Jews Are Better Off in the Catholic Church Than in the Jews for Jesus, contains a strong defense of the Catholic faith as compared with Protestant doctrines.

Marty’s Other Writing on this Site

Many of the Catholic definitions defend the Faith, particularly authority, Bible, Catholic, completion story, magisterium, sacrament, and sacramental presence.

The Eucharist in Scripture also defends the Faith by citing the Bible in support of the Holy Eucharist.

This site also has an entire area on evangelization.

It includes articles on evangelizing Catholics, Jews, Protestants, atheists, liberals, and new agers.

The formative professions area offers an important approach to Catholic evangelization.
